Ep #2: Wild Horses at Risk of Extinction

There’s nothing more beautiful or more stirring than a group of wild horses streaming across the prairie, manes and tails flying in the wind, running for the sheer joy of being alive. The most important thing to remember though, is what wild horses contribute to our lands, to our hearts, and to our souls. This gift of theirs is why Congress, in 1971, passed The Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act.

Congress decreed that wild free-roaming horses and burros shall be protected from capture, branding, harassment, or death. Yet, wild horses are being culled from their homes and their families, in the tens of thousands almost every year, by the same agency charged with protecting them. At the end of this year, there will most likely be more horses in holding facilities than in the wild.
