Wild Horses: BLM Calls Rounding Up Wild Horses “Saving Them From Stress”
February 24, 2012BLM Seeks Contracts to Remove Wild Horses from Public Lands, and Replace with Cattle
March 30, 2012Wild Horses: National Wild Horse and Burro Protest Day March 1
I am writing to you today to ask that you call in on March 1 because Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar has made a second pro-slaughter appointment to the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board. I am concerned for our 40,000 wild horses who are in short and long term holding – we do not want them to decide on the “final solution” for these horses.
This is from the Cloud Foundation:
On Thursday, March 1, 2012:
Join thousands of concerned and caring Americans around the country.
Protest Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s appointment of Callie Hendrickson to the BLM National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board[1] representing the General Public.
Background: Callie Hendrickson is the Executive Director of the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts representing ranching interests, many of whom have permits to run livestock on public lands in northwestern Colorado. The organization successfully petitioned to become an intervenor on the side of BLM to completely remove the West Douglas Creek Wild Horse Herd on the Western Slope of Colorado.
- Ms. Hendrickson supports the sale without limitation of all unadopted wild horses to the highest bidder (including slaughter buyers)
- Ms. Hendrickson will speak at the second pro-slaughter conference (Summit of the Horse) in Oklahoma City this spring. (Sue Wallis’ creation.)
Does Callie Hendrickson represent you? If your answer is NO, then please call, fax, and email Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and politely, but firmly ask that Callie Hendrickson’s appointment to the Advisory Board be rescinded immediately.
Tell the Secretary that she does not represent you or the 80% of the General Public opposed to horse slaughter[2].

I have two wild horses of my own. they are the most wonderful animals. I think that any wild horses that can not be adopted out within one year of round up should be returned to the wild where they were taken from. if any animals need to be removed from the grazing area it should be in th form of cattle.
Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on at the BLM and private rancher organizations? The BLM sends the helicopter out in these western states looking for small packs of happy, healthy and stress free horse families. The horses become stressed by the helicopter chasing down the horses and making them run for their lives in a 10 mile stretch and in some areas the horses are running fast over alot of rock and when they finally get to the BLM holding pen the horses are beyond exhaustion, their hoofs are in so much pain that it is difficult to stand, the horses collapse because their hoofs fall off and then the horse dies. I saw this in one of the video clips. The horses in these holding pens get very little water and hay. And some horses were crammed in the holding pen. There was no hay or water buckets or trough there. One of the pens had a foot of manure layered on the ground. The mare had given birth to a foal and the mare was stressed from lack of food and water and the mare had nothing for her foal to drink. The mare tried to help her foal but the foal soon collapsed in the foot high manure and died. The BLM helicopter chases pregnant mares and plus any new foals. The BLM does not care about the horses welfare living free and happy in the wild. Go and do some searches and look for the BLM video clips like I did. You will be shocked! What about the people for the ethical treatment of animals???? Can they help prevent and keep the horses wild and roaming free at will and preserved and untouched???
That’s acually a great Idea, there are so many that are adoptable, why not replace back into the wild the ones that are unadoptable,
These majestic creatures of God should be fee and protected. They should not be taken to slaughter. Shame on anyone who thinks otherwise.
i think salazar should be casterated, oh i would volunteer for that…..please, i do this for fun on him, salazar should himself not have any breeding rights!
How could anyone kill or abuse such a beautiful creature that is a heritage to our land. This is supposed to be the land of the free for all living things. The Indians brought these horses here for a reason not to be killed. We lost so many of them inwar times. Let them be free on their own terms
