Ep #31: Supporting McCullough Peaks Wild Horses Adoption: Interview with Gina Kuttrus and Sandy Sisti
April 22, 2024A Tribute to Thor, Wild Stallion of McCullough Peaks
May 2, 2024Art Fundraiser to Support the Adoption of the wild horses of McCullough Peaks
As many of you may know, 40 wild horses were rounded up and removed from the McCullough Peaks Herd near Cody, Wyoming by the Bureau of Land Management over the last few months. 39 of these horses, minus yearling filly Kat Ballou who lost her life in temporary holding, are now at the short term holding facility in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Two new foals have been born at the facility, and they and their mothers plus two very pregnant mares will be held at the facility until the foals are weaned. But 14 mares will be offered for adoption in the BLM’s Online Corral May 6-13 and the stallions who are not gelded yet will be offered in the Online Corral July 8-15.
With over 62,000 wild horses in holding facilities, it is clear that not all wild horses that are rounded up and removed from their homes are adopted. And not all of those adopted remain in their adopted homes. Since this was a relatively small number of horses, and such a well-known and beloved herd, my dear friend Sandy Sisti reached out to Gina at For the Love of Aria for help to find homes for these horses. We are raising money to go with the horses adopted to help them get a safe landing, providing needed funds for essentials and she is also coordinating with individuals and sanctuaries so that hopefully there will not be bidding wars.
I set up an online art fundraiser and have been extremely honored by all of the wonderful artists and jewelers who have donated their beautiful work to support these horses in my favorite herd. I have dedicated this fundraiser to the wild stallion Thor who sadly died on Saturday, April 20. I have known Thor since he was born in 2011 and he has been an inspiration to people across the world, to those who have spent time with him in person and to those who have followed his adventures through photos and videos on social media. I have to think he is looking down on his herd mates and wanting the best possible lives for them.
Here is some of the fantastic artwork in the art fundraiser, which goes through May 2. You can sign up and then place bids at this online auction site: https://www.32auctions.com/Peaks
All of the funds from sales of artwork and jewelry go directly into the McCullough Peaks fund at For the Love of Aria.
You can also donate to For the Love of Aria without bidding in the auction: Zelle: FortheLoveofAria19@gmail.com, Venmo: @fortheloveofaria or send a check to: For the Love of Aria, P.O.
