Ep #4: Flying Over an Ocean of Snow
March 20, 2023Ep #6: The Pryor Mountain Herd: Interview with Ginger Kathrens
April 17, 2023Angelique Rea is with me today to talk about Arapaho Creek. She’s been visiting the Red Desert Complex since 2011. She spends a lot of her time in the desert observing, photographing, researching, and documenting the wild horses there. I think it’s very important that people understand what is going on in Arapaho Creek and the larger Red Desert Complex Area.
The horses that are in Arapaho Creek are some of the most amazing horses you will ever meet in your life. This is because they are that perfect mix of all of the surrounding Herd Management Area horses, and also the unique environmental resources that draw in all the wild horses. Despite the roundups and the BLM’s “zero-return” policy for this area in particular, the wild horses keep returning. This land is in their DNA. Generationally they know this is their home.
Angelique and I discuss the confluence of events, people, and history of the Arapaho Creek area that have made it so dangerous for horse families to live here. Learn why special interest groups, insurance companies, and state and federal policies are creating genetic viability and extinction issues for future horse generations. Listen in to find out how and why the wild horses need your voice.

Thank you Carol and Angelique for the very informative show. I have been advocating and praying to save our magnificent wild horses WILD. I have written letters to our representatives in both Federal and State Governments. I have forwarded info about the wild horses to everyone I know, begging for them to join me in saving them from extinction and in the long run saving our environment. Cattle are destructive to the environment and the horses are not. Horses are native, Cattle are not. Cattle drink more water than horses. Horses will travel miles for water where cattle just stay in one place. I absolutely love your podcasts and will continue the fight to save the wild horses. I learn something new during every Podcast and add that to my arsenal of facts to present to others.
Thank you so much for this podcast. I have been an advocate since moving to CO 3 years ago. Volunteering at CHR began my quest to learn more about the Mustangs and their plight. I am thankful for all the photographers that are out there and reporting the truth. I also send letters, sign petitions, send donations, volunteer with training and care of the Mustangs, and spread information to as many people I can to help educate the public. So many Americans have no idea what is going on with our Public Lands and to our Mustangs and Burros!!!
What an inspirational podcast with such a wealth of truly informative and deeply moving information.
I commend Carol J. Walker and Angelique Rea on very well done and much needed interview.
As I listen and learn from Carol’s #5 podcast it couldn’t of come a at better time. I’m am currently planning my first trip to, hopefully find and view wild horse herds in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana then back home. Road Trip!
Carol, I may give you a call for some general advice and info.
Thanks again to Carol and Angelique for all your endeavors for our most beautiful, proud wild horses who only want to run forever free. It is their right.
I feel like I’m late finding you Carol but I’m SO grateful I did❤️ I would LOVE to help out any way I can. I have a 15yr old daughter who is passionate about saving the wild horses too🥰
