Urgent Call to Action – Call Senators Today to Save Our Wild Horses
September 23, 2019Fifteenmile Wild Horse Roundup in Wyoming Day 1
October 19, 2019On the Eve of the Fifteenmile Wild Horse Roundup in Wyoming
In two days, weather permitting, the Bureau of Land Management will begin the Fifteenmile Roundup, in the Fifteenmile HMA in northern Wyoming. The nearest town is Worland. This HMA is very remote, little visited and boasts incredible rock formations, buttes, canyons, hoodoos and very colorful wild horses. The horses in this area are not used to being visited by photographers and tend to run at the mere sight of a vehicle. They have been relatively unmolested by the BLM since the last helicopter roundup in 2009. This to my mind made this herd a potential candidate for a study on the rate of wild horse births in a herd not subjected to constant roundup and removal, every 2 – 3 years. The National Academy of Sciences study found that the constant roundup and removal has an increase in birth rate as its result. But the BLM is going forward with the roundup anyway, and plans to remove 600 out of the approximately 700 wild horses that they estimate are in the HMA.

This is the official link to information on the roundup and includes information on how members of the public can observe. To read about my comments against the roundup and proposed removal of 600 of the 700 wild horses living with their families in this area:
I will be providing updates and information as the roundup progresses.

Stop these horrific roundups of these beautiful innocent wild horses……they don’t deserve this…..they deserve to be free as they always have been! It’s all about greed between the BLM and the cattlemen and it s wrong!!!!
BLM needs to stop the continuing roundup of our nation’s wild horses and burros, effective immediately! BLM is decimating our wild horse populations! STOP! Every time they conduct these roundups horses and foals get injured, and die. Follow the money and find out who is really behind these ongoing roundups! It needs to STOP! Leave our wild horses alone to live wild and free with their family bands!
Leave our wild horses alone to live free! BLM needs to stop these continuing roundups. Follow the money to see who is really behind these unnecessary roundups of wild horses and burros.
We glorify our wild Wild West with Bison Elk and Horses wandering free but really it’s abused land of the cattle industry that still pay ridiculously low rates to ruin our land. Isn’t it OUR land.??don’t think so at all
Why do we always feel the need to exert our dominance over those who have no voice , no choice and no chance of living the perfect life they once had. We humans are going to pay for all of these abominations, even if only by having nothing to look at but ourselves ! Imagine that world , it may be here sooner than we think.
These are America’s horses, leave them alone. The BLM is committing cruelty to these horses by the way they round them up, shame on this agency. Disgusting.
Do the right thing!
Stop catering to the cattle ranchers . Get their cattle off our lands. It’s the taxpayers land we do not want this!!’the horses belong there. It’s all about greed and the almighty dollar.
Everyone hollers, “Stop the BLM”! BUT YOU CAN’T! The politicians have been paid well to destroy them and they won’t stop until every last one is fine.
This land belong sto everybody, not just ranchers. Why dont you listen to the people and stop wiping out our wild horse herds? You’re not leaving enough horses to carry on genetics without inter-breeding. Stop trying to control wildlife! You, the government kills everything! Leave the horses alone!
Leave these horses alone. Let them roam as God intended free.
It’s their land
Thank you for spreading the information regarding Wild Horse roundups. It is only through education that people will care enough to get involved and change policies towards the horses in the blm areas.
Why such a high number being sought for round up.. They think the herd increases that much in 10 years, that would be impossible.. Sounds like they are taking them down to a lesser number then before.. Again why.??
With over 60000 wild horses already in captivity by the BLM there is no need to roundup more. The DOI/BLM has a complete eradication plan for these wild horses and they need to be stopped. Cattle do not belong on our public lands and the BLM has been bought off since there are more cattle than horses currently on our public lands. Tell BLM not only no to more roundups, but HELL no!!
I can’t believe that I live in a nation that supports grazing cattle to then chop up into pieces to devour like savages; all at the price of wild life extinction. What an embarrassment it is to be an American right now. Wild horses and Burros helped build our nation, and this is how we “manage” them? BLM is an insult to the United States.
Can you tell us who to contact/s to help stop this?
Congress is the only was to stop the roundups. Contact your Senators and Representatives and tell them “the path forward” is a dead end for our wild horses who need to be managed humanely on the range in their homes.
The BLM is very careful with these horses. I have visited there facilities and they are very nice. They take every precaution to make sure they are well cared for. I am looking into adopting one. These horses have not always been wild out here. For what ever reason and there are many, they are out there and they are beautiful. I would love to see them always out their. I think a solution has been made to satisfy all sides of this issue. Please educate yourself so you do understand what is going on.
I am very well educated about the issue. Wild horses belong in their homes on public land not in holding facilities in feed lot conditions with no shelter.
I am shocked by this comment. I too have visited a number of holding facilities and even adopted my first mustang from a Nevada facility, my current mustang from South Dakota. I would prefer my own mustangs had been left in the wild but their possible transport across our southern border Ito Mexico, and our northern border into Canada for slaughter was on my mind. YOU ARE WRONG. These horses are NOT well cared for. They have no shelter from storms, rain, hail, sleet, snow, lightning…many slog around and give birth in mud where their foals get sick and their hooves rot. They cannot run to keep their muscles strong, as Nature intended them to do. They cannot graze grasses or find shade in canyons and under trees. They are viewed by their government keepers as non-native nuisance animals, ignoring the research that shows that wild horses originated on North American lands, that they keep the dead plants on the ranges grazed down thereby preventing range fires , and that they further populate wild grasses through seeds passed around in their manure. Further, a course I took from an equine instructor from U.C. DAVIS taught that horses do not even eat the same grasses as cattle, nor do they pull up grasses from the roots as cattle do, but they cut it off at the stems so grass can continue growing. If you would choose to educate yourself about this, you would see that there are not enough people to adopt all the wild horses removed from the range. The government says that any over 5 will not be adopted. Do you truly think they all go to holding facilities at taxpayer expense? With the past economic downturn many horses in my state and other places were actually released to fend for themselves, or starved through lack of feeding tbecause people couldn’t afford them. Even Native American reservations were allowing them to be rounded up and shipped off to slaughter until public sentiment stopped this. The government needs to use birth control methods like is used at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, and not just remove them to stand around in a large muddy corral. Near where I live the government just came in and removed a herd people loved. Even the mews media was outraged. After much searching a few were found at a feedlot on our southern border, the others? No one knows. So don’t think our government’s plan of rounding up our wild horses is for the horses’ benefit. It is not. If you would continue educating yourself, instead of criticizing Carol Walker and the other individuals who have made the wild horse plight their life’s work, you would also find out that our government is now selling wild horses by the truckload. Who needs or wants a truckload of horses except to make money sending them to slaughter? Educate yourself. I am appalled by your flippant, ignorant comment.
Thank you for this. Exactly how I feel!
Please stop this!??? so cruel…blm stands for brutal lame men!!! Shame on all of you, ????????♀️
Human picket line. Use vehicles, protestors, whatever it takes. Actions speak louder than words.
It is important to observe and document rather than to obstruct, this is more helpful to the horses.
true, obstructive protest leads to animal rights activists being labeled as terrorists on government watch lists.
