Mica’s Reunion with the Cremello Colts

Mica, my adopted Adobe Town mustang was at Beth Beymer’s place, Starfire Farm for a year of training on the ground and under saddle. Since he was not far away, it was easy for me to visit and see his progress.

But Claro and Cremosso were very sad when he left. They had been together for almost 5 years, and of course I could not explain that Mica was coming back. They finally adjusted, and things were much quieter at my house without Mica to stir the other two up.

I visited Mica a couple of weeks before I brought him home and photographed him in the early morning at Beth’s. It was amazing to me seeing how filled out and grown up he looked.

As I drove up to my gate Mica knew exactly where he was, and started whinnying and calling out. Claro and Cremosso looked up from grazing and started moving toward the gate, and Cremosso called back to Mica.

I drove into the smaller pasture where I left the boys, and opened the trailer door for Mica, who immediately jumped out and ran toward his buddies.

When they came together, there was a lot of sniffing.

Now Claro has always been the boss – he may seem mild mannered, but he has been in charge of their little family ever since Mica first came at 6 months old.And he clearly thought it was important to put Mica in hsi place so he wouldn’t get any ideas about who was in charge. Pecking order is important to both wild and domestic horses.

Mica looks out toward the big pasture and I think they are ready to go out to the whole property, so I open the gate.

I am very happy to have Mica home, and I can see that they are very happy to be back together again.
