Wild Horses: Comments Needed for a Management Plan for Wild Horses in Northern Wyoming
September 1, 2011Wild Horses: Urgent – Comments Needed Today, 9-26-11, for NAS Study
September 26, 2011On Monday, Rich Scott trailered Claro back to his home, and he was reunited with Mica and Cremosso.
When Rich arrived, he did a little work with Claro on loading and unloading into the trailer, and then had me work with him on loading and unloading. As we worked, Mica and Cremosso watched very closely from the small pen.
Then Rich released Claro into the corral while he trimmed Mica and Cremosso’s feet.
Cremosso just had to take a closer look at the shoeing equipment.
Next, Rich turned Mica and Cremosso loose in the big corral with Claro, and Mica immediately went up to Claro, and acted submissive, using the young wild horse opening and closing of the mouth which means “I’m a baby, don’t hurt me.”
Then Claro and Cremosso had their reunion, which included some squealing and posturing from Claro. Mica stayed back but was very interested. Then the three started running around the corral.
Rich used the flag to encourage them to split up and face him, to pay attention to him rather than to each other.
Mica figured out this new game very quickly, deciding it was much easier to stand quietly and face Rich than it was to continue running. Once all were standing quietly, Rich went up to each horse and stroked them and had them stand quietly as he did so – and if they moved off, they were moved until they settled calmly and faced him once more. I was very impressed seeing the three horses at different points in the corral, all standing quietly.
Then I went out of the corral to get a good spot to watch them run out of the corral. Cremosso figured out the gate was open first, and led the charge, Mica close on his heels. Claro was slower but ran to catch up, clearly happy to be home once again.
I am very happy to have them all home together at last.

Good stuff allaround Carol, also looks like with your land, you can bring a couple more home and become a non profit rescue
